A bear, however hard he tries, grows tubby without exercise.

The best way to get fit for an active vacation is to zero in on the kinds of activities you’ll be doing, determine what your weaknesses are, and then direct your workouts to improve your strength, flexibility and endurance.  Even if you are not planning to hike the Alps or paddle the Allagash, use the goal of your active vacation as a planning tool for your workouts. Standard training fees apply.

As the trainer for Distant Journeys, I help people prepare for international hiking trips, but I am also available to organize an active two to four day vacation to Acadia National Park.  I grew up there. You'll love it. Celebrate your 50th birthday with a small group of friends who will get fit and then go on your FitTrip to Acadia.  Or spend the summer getting fitter by preparing for Columbus Day weekend walking the park's carriage trails and hiking up Cadillac Mountain.
